September 24, 2012 — A medication shortage policy has been found to be fair and effective after 1 year of use at a large medical center. The policy was developed to help clinicians, hospitals, and pharmacies cope with medication shortages, which have become increasingly common in recent years.<\/p>\n

Rosoff, MD, director of clinical ethics at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, and colleagues describe their policy, and how it was used to manage shortages of 2 medications, in an article published online September 24 in the Archives of Internal Medicine<\/i>.<\/p>\n
