Money arriving from Brussels for the reintegration into the labor market of hundreds of unemployed people made redundant in France, Ireland, Holland, Spain and Sweden due to the economic crisis. The EU Commission has given the green light for payments totaling \u20ac25.3m from the European globalization fund, with the biggest chunk of \u20ac11.9m going to the 2,089 former employees of PSA Peugeot-Citroen in France. Other aid will go to former workers in sectors such as aluminium, broadband services, construction and pharmaceuticals.<\/p>\n

Of the more than 25 million of the total, 4.3 million are intended for former workers of the Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. A further 2.8 million euros will help 435 fired from the construction sector in the Netherlands and 2.6 million euros for the 432 former employees of Talk Talk, a provider of broadband services, in Ireland.<\/p>\n

The workers of 35 manufacturers of metal components for ships in Spain will receive two million euros, while 1.4 million euros are the funds destined for 616 former employees of Zalco Aluminum Zeeland Company NV in the Netherlands.
The European fund for globalization "constitutes an effective tool in supporting workers made redundant following changes on the world market, proving its value during the crisis", said Laszlo Andor, EU commissioner for labour. Hence Andor's appeal to the EU member states, so that "the fund continues to be available" also in the 2014-2020 budget. <\/p>\n
