In May 2015, the seasonally adjusted index of industrial production increased by 0.9% compared with April. On average for the March-May 2015 quarter, production increased by 1.0% compared to the previous quarter.<\/p>\n

Corrected for calendar effects, in May 2015 the index increased in trend terms by 3.0% (there were 20 working days against 21 in May 2014). On average for the first five months of the year, production increased by 0.5% compared to the same period of the previous year.<\/p>\n

The seasonally adjusted index shows positive cyclical changes in all groupings; capital goods (+2.3%), energy (+1.7%), consumer goods (+0.7%) and intermediate goods (+0.6%) increased.<\/p>\n

In trend terms, the indices corrected for calendar effects recorded, in May 2015, a sharp increase in the capital goods sector (+8.5%); to a lesser extent, energy (+1.5%), consumer goods (+1.4%) and intermediate goods (+0.4%) also increased.<\/p>\n

As regards the sectors of economic activity, in May 2015 the sectors that recorded the greatest trend growth were those of the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+16.2%), the manufacture of means of transport (+15.4%), and of production of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (+10.5%)<\/strong>. The greatest decreases were recorded in the sectors of mining (-12.1%), textile, clothing, leather and accessories (-1.4%) and food, beverage and tobacco (-0.5%).<\/p>\n

From 10 July a new area dedicated to the conjuncture<\/strong><\/a> which offers an integrated reading and interactive graphic representations of the phenomena, as well as links to data and press releases from Istat, Eurostat and other international organisations.<\/p>\n
