In September 2017, after four months of continuous growth, the seasonally adjusted index of industrial production recorded a decrease of 1.3% compared to August.<\/p>\n

The seasonally adjusted monthly index grows in the consumer goods sector (+0.4%); decreases instead mark the groupings of energy (-6.3%), intermediate goods (-3.0%) and capital goods
\n(-2.0%). However, activity levels remain high and in line with those of July 2017 for all the main groupings, with the exception of energy.<\/p>\n
In the third quarter, production increased by an average of 1.5% compared to the previous three months, an acceleration compared to the cyclical growth recorded for the previous quarter (+1.2%).<\/p>\n
Corrected for calendar effects, in September 2017 the index increased in trend terms by 2.4% (working days were 21 against 22 in September 2016). The growth trend has continued since February 2017 and on average for the first nine months of the year, production increased by 2.9%.<\/p>\n
In trend terms, the indices adjusted for calendar effects recorded increases in September 2017 for capital goods (+4.6%) and consumer goods (+3.7%); the increase in intermediate goods is more limited (+1.8%) while a negative variation marks the energy sector (-4.4%).<\/p>\n
As regards the sectors of economic activity, in September 2017 the sectors that recorded the greatest trend growth were those of other manufacturing industries, repair and installation of machines and equipment (+11.1%), production of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (+7.9%)<\/strong> and the manufacture of means of transport (+5.9%)<\/p>\n
