Dear Ministers,<\/span><\/p>\n

on behalf of the pharmaceutical companies associated with Farmindustria and the sector unions (Filctem CGIL, Femca CISL and Uiltec UIL) we wish to represent the value of the pharmaceutical industry operating in Italy and the contribution it can offer in such a complex moment for the whole Village.<\/span><\/p>\n

We are aware that we are faced with a situation that urgently requires shared and concrete operations based on common commitments and loyal collaboration between institutions and social partners.<\/span><\/p>\n

With a view to collaborating with the institutions, Farmindustria and the trade unions are jointly requesting the opening of a common table at your ministries to share the peculiarities and development potential of the sector in our country. Aware that a new pharmaceutical governance is needed dedicated to objectives both of sustainability of the social-health service, and of attracting even greater investments in production and research, fundamental for the recovery of the economy and employment in Italy.<\/span><\/p>\n

The pharmaceutical sector, even in this moment of crisis, continues to be a protagonist at national and international level. We are leaders in the European Union in the production of medicines together with Germany and we are the first country in terms of export growth. We employ 66,500 people and invest more than 3 billion a year in R&D and technologies, enhancing the excellence of our universities and hospitals with clinical research<\/span><\/p>\n

In the last 5 years, employment has grown by 10% and 81% of recruitments concerned young people who in 80% cases were offered a permanent contract. Furthermore, the sector boasts a female presence equal to 42%, well above the average of the other industrial sectors and the highest number of women in roles of responsibility (executives and managers) with over 40% of employees. In addition to welfare, well-being and work-life balance policies that are among the most innovative and widespread among workers.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this emergency context, pharmaceutical companies - thanks to the extraordinary commitment of all workers - have ensured the continuity of the production and distribution of medicines for all patients, with a significant contribution to the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is the sector with the lowest number of lost working hours, a very marginal use of redundancy funds (only 3% of workers), now completely outdated without any repercussions on employment, as demonstrated by the economic indicators that indicate the stability of the levels during all the early stages of Covid.<\/span><\/p>\n

In recent years we are witnessing a real revolution in life sciences, characterized by rapid transformations in research and in the capacity to cure.<\/span><\/p>\n

Challenges that require the entire country system to adopt equally innovative approaches and models capable of managing them, even with new professional profiles and skills that respond to the ongoing digitization.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our sector is ready, as always, to contribute to the identification of industrial strategies in step with the changes and emerging needs.<\/span><\/p>\n

The sectoral bilateral solidarity fund, the so-called TRIS Fund, is an example of this, even if it still requires an inter-ministerial decree establishing it for its operation.<\/span><\/p>\n
