Starting from this month, the methodology for calculating the industrial production indices will change \"\"to the so-called linked index, in line with the best practices recommended at international level. Further information in this regard is contained in the information note attached to this press release.<\/p>\n

In January 2022, the seasonally adjusted index of industrial production is estimated to decrease by 3.4% compared to December. On average for the November-January quarter, the level of production decreased by 0.5% compared to the previous quarter.<\/p>\n

The seasonally adjusted monthly index shows short-term decreases in all sectors: negative changes characterize, in fact, energy (-5.2%), consumer goods (-3.6%), intermediate goods (-3.4%) and, to a lesser extent, capital goods (-1.6%).<\/p>\n

Corrected for calendar effects, in January 2022 the overall index decreased in trend terms by 2.6% (there were 20 calendar working days, against 19 in January 2021). A tendential increase is recorded only for energy (+1.1%), while the remaining sectors show decreases, with a greater decrease for intermediate goods (-5.2%) and instrumental goods (-3.5%) and less marked for consumer goods (-1.5%).<\/p>\n

The sectors of economic activity that recorded the greatest trend increases are the production of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (+10.7%)<\/span><\/strong>, the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+8.2%) and the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air (+1.6%). Conversely, the sharpest declines are observed in mining (-12.7%), in the manufacture of electrical equipment (-12.0%) and in other manufacturing industries (-7.1%).<\/p>\n
