A well-known phenomenon in medicine, so much so that in clinical trials i new drugs<\/b>\u00a0they have to prove their own effectiveness against that of a\u00a0placebo<\/b>, but which still has several dark sides.<\/p>\n

A new study byUniversity of Cincinnati<\/b>, published in the magazine\u00a0neurology<\/b><\/a><\/em>, reveals, for example, a hitherto unknown feature: that is, that even in\u00a0placebo<\/b>, The\u00a0price<\/strong>\u00a0it makes the difference. The study was carried out on patients suffering from Parkinson's disease<\/b>, a pathology for which it has long been demonstrated that the intake of placebo<\/b>\u00a0can be extremely effective.<\/p>\n

The 12 volunteers who participated in the experiment were assured that they would receive a\u00a0new drug<\/b>\u00a0capable of boosting production\"\" Of\u00a0dopamine<\/b>, a\u00a0neurotransmitter<\/b>\u00a0which is present in insufficient quantities in patients affected by\u00a0Parkinsons<\/b>. The researchers explained to the patients that they would be injected with two different but equally effective versions of the substance: one costing\u00a0$1,500<\/b>, and one more\u00a0economic<\/b>\u00a0from\u00a0100 bucks<\/b>\u00a0dose.<\/p>\n

In both cases, the patients actually received simple injections of\u00a0physiological solution<\/b>. By measuring the benefits of sui therapy\u00a0symptoms<\/b>\u00a0engines<\/b>\u00a0of patients, the researchers found that, on average, the effectiveness of the\u00a0placebo<\/b>\u00a0it was almost double in those who had received the first\u00a0most expensive fake drug<\/b>, compared to the group that was injected first\u00a0version<\/b>\u00a0economic<\/b>.<\/p>\n

In both cases, the efficacy was lower than that of the drug normally used by the patients, the\u00a0levodopa<\/b>, but in the group that had previously taken the\u00a0placebo<\/b>\u00a0more<\/b>\u00a0costly<\/b>\u00a0the benefits came remarkably close to those of the real drug.\u201d<\/p>\n
