Not an autonomous accident, but an attack. Francesco and Matteo Vinci, father and son respectively, were blown up. This conclusion was reached by the carabinieri bomb squad after the tests carried out on the spot. Therefore, the cause of the explosion was not the LPG cylinder that powered the Ford Fiesta, but a car bomb presumably placed in the trunk. The attack took place in the locality of Cervolaro in Limbadi, in the Vibonese area, shortly after 3 pm. The explosion was distinctly felt throughout the town and caused the fire of the car in which he was charred to death Matteo Vinci, 43 years old, former pharmaceutical informant and candidate in the last municipal elections in the "free and democratic Limbadi" list. His father Francesco, 73, a former coachbuilder, he managed to leave the vehicle, however, suffering first and second degree burns to his legs. The two were returning home after completing a series of works on some land owned in a rural area.

The condition of the injured. Francesco Vinci rescued by the 118 doctors was immediately transported to the hospital in Vibo Valentia and from there transferred by helicopter to the Burns Center in Palermo. His conditions are serious, the prognosis is reserved but the man does not appear to be in imminent danger of life. He could therefore do it and tell the investigators some precious details of what happened.

The investigations The carabinieri of the Vibo investigative unit led by Major Valerio Palmieri are investigating what happened in Limbadi this afternoon. From the past of the Vinci family emerges a detail being examined by the investigators. In March 2014 Francesco and Matteo Vinci had been arrested by the Carabinieri of Limbadi following a fight with some neighbors (related to the Mancusos) which broke out for reasons related to the boundaries of agricultural land. Against the two Vincis there are no criminal records for the mafia, nor is the victim linked to organized crime circles. The case is in any case followed with particular attention by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Catanzaro because Limbadi is not just any town but is the "fiefdom" of one of the most powerful criminal consortia of the 'Ndrangheta, that of the Mancusos.

Summit in the Prefecture. The prefect of Vibo Valentia Guido Longo urgently convened the provincial committee for order and security in relation to the serious crimes that occurred in the last few hours in Soriano Calabro where the commemorative stele of Filippo Ceravolo (young victim innocent of the mafia) and in Limbadi where instead a car explosion caused the death of one person and the wounding of another. The top representatives of the forces of order will participate in the summit organized to examine the situation. The participation of the deputy prosecutor of the Catanzaro District Anti-Mafia Directorate Giovanni Bombardieri is also expected.
