The anti-Viagra arrives: erections in 15 minutes, promises "Stendra"

Rome, April 28. (TMNews) - A pill that promises an erection in 15 minutes, about half the time of action of Viagra. This is the main feature of Stendra, the new drug that has just been given the go-ahead by the Foods and Drug Administration (Fda), the body in charge of drug safety in the United States. The new pills exploit an active ingredient called "avanafil" and have been registered by Vivus Inc., which is looking for a partner to sell the drug in the US in a market - that of drugs for erectile dysfunction - which is dominated by Pfizer with its Viagra, 2 billion in sales last year alone and an efficacy that becomes "tangible" in between 30 minutes and an hour.

"I think it's a product with different characteristics," Michael King, a pharmaceutical analyst at Rodman & Renshaw in New York, told Bloomberg. Also because unlike a product like Cialis produced by Eli Lilly, the new product causes "quick on and off".

Sales prospects for Stendra initially appear limited by Vivus' ability to commercialize the new product. According to the average estimate of six analysts consulted by Bloomberg, sales in the next year could be equal to 68 million dollars and then projected to 459 million in 2017.
