Equivalent drugs. Cittadinanzattiva: "The obstructionism of doctors is scandalous"

While understanding the difficulties caused by the delay in updating the information system, according to the Cittadinanzattiva Court for Patients' Rights, "the obstructionism of doctors" to the prescription of equivalent medicines "is unjustifiable". Fp Cgil Medici: "No boycott, but an extension is needed".

20 AUG – “We are scandalized by the obstruction that family doctors in particular are making on prescriptions” because “if on the one hand it is true that the operating systems could be updated in less time, on the other one cannot always take an oppositional position when by now in all western countries these norms are consolidated”. This is the comment by Giuseppe Scaramuzza, national coordinator of the Tribunal for the rights of the sick-Cittadinanzattiva, on the controversy of these days regarding the new rules for the prescription of drugs introduced by the decree on the spending review.

“Today, the State reimburses medicines with expired patents up to the threshold of the lowest price among equivalent products”, continued Scaramuzza. “If the citizen wants a branded drug and this costs more, he pays the difference: on average, a branded drug costs 2 euros more than a generic one. Aifa data say that in 2011 citizens spent 792 million euros to pay for these price differences. A figure that today they will be able to save with the new standard. It is only one of the data which – according to Scaramuzza – should convince family doctors to change their attitude and to correctly inform people about the new regulations. Information campaign on which it is important that the Ministry also does its part, involving associations for the protection of citizens".
