FERENTINO – Accident on the A1: two dead and two seriously injured

FERENTINO – Tragic road accident on Monday 11 morning, shortly after 10.30, along the A1 at kilometer 615 in a southerly direction, between Anagni and Frosinone, just before the Ferentino tollbooth. Due to causes still being examined by the Subsection of the Frosinone Traffic Police, two cars, an X3 and a Lancia Y collided. Two people died instantly while two other people were rushed to hospital in Frosinone, still in very serious conditions, for which their transfer to a Roman hospital will probably be arranged. Two other people were injured.

On the spot, in addition to the highway agents and the health workers of 118, the Frosinone Fire Brigade also intervened to remove the cars. Highway traffic was blocked for a few hours and there were about three kilometers of queues. The two deceased and the two seriously injured were Scientific Representatives of AstraZeneca, on their way to a company meeting in Naples.

Four Informants on a BMW X3 collided with a Lancia Y traveling in the same direction of travel and lane. The Lancia Y driven by a 40-year-old Roman, first crashed into the wall dividing the two directions, then overturned into an escarpment. The BMW, on the other hand, in which the four scientific informants were travelling, in the direction of Naples, to go to a conference, first collided with the Lancia, then turned over several times and ended up on the middle lane of the motorway heading south.

It was a tragedy. Two of the occupants of the BMW were thrown out of the passenger compartment and found dead, examined on the ground, tens of meters away from each other. They are Orlando Fortunato, 47, originally from Bovalino (Calabria), a resident of Rome for years who was driving the car, and a colleague of his, Luca Montani, 48, who was sitting in the back seat, on the passenger side. Luca had returned to live in Amelia a few years ago, had recently become a father, he was one of the most active members of the Tennisclub.

There was nothing for him to do. Two other occupants of the BMW were seriously injured. One of them, Simona Buono, a 36-year-old woman from Naples, was found still alive under the car that had lost all four wheels. The other seriously injured is Paolo De Luca, 44, a resident of Monterotondo. Both were transported by helicopter to the Umberto I polyclinic.

“I heard a tire burst – said a witness – Then a bang. The BMW overturned several times, a tragedy, it looked like the apocalypse. It is not the first time that fatal accidents have occurred in this stretch, just look at the bouquets of flowers on the guardrails».
