Redundant Scientific Representatives

LATIN – The assemblies of the Pharmaceutical Representatives of Pfizer Italia srl organized by the Provincial Secretariats of Latina of Filctem Cgil-Femca Cisl-Uilcem Uil-Ugl Chemists have just concluded, after last March 22 the American multinational had announced the opening of a mobility procedure for 192 Whistleblowers. An initial meeting between the trade unions, the union union and the company's top management served to put on the table the reasons that prompted the company to open the mobility procedure and which are repeated every time a pharmaceutical company declares a crisis : patent expirations, cost containment, drastic cut in expenses by the National Health System, need to reorganize its structure, low per capita turnover. The union for its part has requested to reduce the numbers of the procedure, spread the redundancies over all the Business Units and consider alternative forms of social safety nets to mobility. The parties adjourned to April 15th to allow the workers' assemblies to take place, which were held on April 3rd in Bologna and today in Naples. During these meetings, the situation was reviewed and what the workers had to propose on a dispute that encompassed the entire national territory was listened to, since the ISFs operate in practically every Italian region. A situation that promises to be complicated and that will hit this sector of society very seriously, considering that the 192 redundancies announced represent more than 70% of the staff usually employed. A state of unrest has been declared, and the workers have said they are ready to support the actions that the RSU and the provincial secretariats intend to undertake so that the dispute finds outlets acceptable to all.
This from Pfizer is the latest mobility procedure that has been opened, and follows shortly those that have already affected other important groups this year such as Bracco with 111 redundancies declared or Bristol Myers Squibb with 246 employees, but also smaller entities such as Rottapharm with 34 people, Pharmantis and Takeda with 35. Janssen also plays its part by declaring, at the end of March, its intention to fire 41 informants. A very long list that in the last five years tells us about more than 7,000 jobs lost among the ISFs who continue to pay a very heavy price for the crisis that has hit the pharmaceutical industry.
"Today it is becoming more and more complicated to manage the dispute of these workers at company level since the critical issues of this sector involve much more complex players and situations with a national impact" says Roberto Cecere Provincial Secretary of the Femca Cisl of Latina" It is therefore necessary that the category tighten the ranks even more and give life to mobilization initiatives capable of attracting the attention of their disputes by making them leave the various territorial areas. Creating a synergy with the national levels of the trade union would help identify a solution also involving Farmindustria and the institutions with initiatives aimed at recovering these professionals. As Femca Cisl we believe that the pharmaceutical sector is essential for the growth and qualified employment of our country and for this reason we are asking
