ISTAT. Industrial production

In October 2012, the seasonally adjusted index of industrial production decreased by 1.1% compared to September. On average for the August-October quarter, the index recorded a decrease of 0.5% compared to the immediately preceding quarter.

Corrected for calendar effects, in October the index decreased by 6.2% in trend terms (there were 23 working days against 21 in October 2011). On average for the first ten months of the year, production decreased by 6.5% compared to the same period of the previous year.

In October 2012, the indices adjusted for calendar effects show negative trend changes in all the main industrial groupings. The most marked decrease concerns intermediate goods (-8.0%), but significant drops are also recorded for capital goods (-5.8%), consumer goods (-5.5%) and energy (-4. 4%).

In the trend comparison, the industrial sectors that show growth are: manufacturing of chemical products (+1.1%) and food, beverage and tobacco industries (+0.4%)

The sector that recorded the largest decrease in October was that of the manufacture of rubber and plastic materials, other non-metallic mineral products (-14.7%).
