ISTAT. Industrial production of pharmaceuticals in January – 13.6%

In January 2021, the seasonally adjusted industrial production index is estimated to increase by 1.0% compared to December. On the other hand, the average for the November-January quarter recorded a decrease of 1.7% compared to the previous three months.

The seasonally adjusted monthly index shows sustained cyclical increases for capital goods (+1.4%) and consumer goods (+1.2%), more contained for intermediate goods (+0.4%); conversely, a decrease was observed in the energy sector (-0.8%).

Corrected for calendar effects, in January 2021 the overall index decreased in trend terms by 2.4% (there were 19 calendar working days, against 21 in January 2020). A tendential increase is recorded only for intermediate goods (+2.4%), while the remaining sectors show decreases, with a pronounced drop for consumer goods (-8.6%) and less marked for other aggregates (-1, 8% for capital goods and -0.9% for energy).

The sectors of economic activity that recorded the greatest trend increases are the manufacture of electrical equipment (+9.7%), the manufacture of chemical products (+4.4%) and articles in rubber and plastic materials (+3.8%). Conversely, theand greater push-ups are recorded in the textile, clothing, leather and accessories industries (-20.8%), in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (-18.4%) and in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and preparations (-13.6%).
