The Tuscan Region presents the bill to Menarini: 87 million

The company's top management is accused of inflating the prices of the drugs. The local health authorities and university companies have asked for 87 million in compensation

FLORENCE — The Region has filed a civil action in the trial for fraud and money laundering in which seven managers of the Menarini drug multinational are accused, including the sons of the patron Alberto Aleotti, Lucia and Alberto Giovanni.

The accusation made by the prosecution is that of having inflated the price of the active ingredients of the drugs in order to create a treasure trove of black funds to be used for private purposes.

Because of this the lawyer of the Region Alberto Bevacqua, which also represents the university hospitals of Siena, Florence and Pisa, in addition to Meyer, has asked for a maxi compensation of 87 million euros.

“In this courtroom – he said – the origin of the large capitals, coming from slush funds, who have been shielded to buy yachts, planes and guarantee the studies of Alberto Aleotti's grandchildren. It is ugly to think that that money is the result of a fraud on the backs of the sick”.

Hence, the maxi compensation requested. Eighty-seven million euros divided as follows: 57 million for pecuniary damage and 30 for damage to image.
