HEALTHCARE: 600 THOUSAND OPERATORS AWAITING FOR RULES

Over 600,000 healthcare workers, awaiting new guarantee rules for their work and real recognition of their activity, will see their hopes betrayed. In fact, in these last stages of the Government, it is difficult for the Council of Ministers to receive the text for the regulation of the 22 health profiles (19 if we exclude midwives, nurses and radiology technicians already 'regulated'), delegated to the Executive. Senator Giuseppe Caforio (Italia dei Valori) is convinced of this, and he is particularly committed to this battle, also due to his profession as an orthopedic technician. The professions involved in the regulation are diverse - from orthopedic technicians to rehabilitation therapists, from occupational therapists to podiatrists and perfusionists - and all awaited rules for greater protection of the profession, in particular against unfair competition from 'abusives', and to give greater user guarantees. Caforio recalls that "the process of the law had been completed, after intense work, and – he explains – we all hoped to reach a positive conclusion". With the government crisis, everything has become more complicated, and now "there seems to be no space to bring the text to the Council of Ministers for ratification", says Caforio, underlining that the approval would be part of ordinary administration. "However, I don't see the political will", he denounces. "Undermining a law that, with great sacrifices, had been carried forward - adds the senator - is serious and great damage is done to the professionals who were waiting for it. Also because it means resetting everything, it is like Penelope's canvas: they throw themselves into the years of work, given that in this way the enabling law, which committed the Government to regulation, lapses. According to Caforio, the 'party' of those who, in recent years, have hindered regulation, in particular the traditional health professions, has won. it points to a great misunderstanding - he concludes - there was fear of new professional orders, thus canceling the possibility of establishing them. This is because order is identified with the lobby. But these professions have never made requests for tariffs or other privileges that suggest lobbying interests. Rather they think of a regulation in the interest of the user and to ensure fair competition and to combat illegal practices, unfortunately present on a large scale today. Our battle is against unauthorized use and for the health of citizens". From Doctornews 21-02-08
