Swiss. Merck Serono, 15,000 signatures collected

The battle of Merck Serono employees against the closure of the Geneva headquarters of the pharmaceutical multinational continues. In fact, a petition bearing 14,857 signatures was delivered today to the Federal Department of the Economy [in the photo on the right the delivery of the signatures].

The signatures are addressed to Johann Schneider-Ammann and urge the Minister of Economy to make every effort to retain as many jobs on the Geneva site. In fact, the management of the German company intends to close this site in order to concentrate its activities elsewhere.

Almost 15,000 signatures in one month

"These signatures were collected in less than a month, a sign that the entire population of the Canton is with us," said Astrid Melotti, on behalf of the Merck Serono personnel delegation, in front of about 150 company employees who arrived in the capital.

Globally, there are 1,500 jobs at risk both in Geneva and in the production units located in the canton of Vaud. The Confederation is invited to support - also financially - the alternative proposals aimed at preserving the greatest number of
jobs in Switzerland, reads the petition.
