AIFA: AT THE END OF 2008 +25% GENERICS MARKET

At the end of 2008, the market for generic drugs in Italy could experience a 25% boom, thanks to the expiry of some patents. To say it is Nello Martini, director general of the Italian Medicines Agency (Aifa), who participated. «In 2008», recalled Martini, «there are molecules of extraordinary importance that in Italy lose their patent coverage. by the end of 2008, an increase in the Italian market for generics of 25% is therefore expected». the boom in generics, however, will have to "fight" against the reluctance of Italians to use generic drugs instead of "designer" ones. On the research front, however, Italy is making leaps forward: «From 2000 to today», added the AIFA director, «there have been over 300 clinical trials in Italy, and I must say that it is increasing phase 2 experimentation in a sensitive manner, and that there are important signs of an increase also for the phase 1 experimentation".
