THE CHINESE BRANCH OF THE FDA OPENS

The American regulatory body Food and Drug Administration (Fda) is about to open an office in China, more precisely in Beijing. This is the first branch center from the United States. Two more offices will subsequently be built in the country in Guangzhou and Shanghai, as established by agreements signed in December 2007 with the Chinese Medicines and Food Agency. The commissioner of the FDA, Andrew von Eschenbach and the secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) - reports Reuters - flew to China to open the new offices, with the aim of establishing a permanent presence of the FDA in China aimed at improving the speed and the effectiveness of cooperation in regulatory activities also for exports, implementing consumer protection. The structures will be able to count on a staff of 12 people. The FDA also plans to open offices in India and Central America
