Cardinals (Filctem-CGIL) to Deputy Minister Todde: ISF layoffs alarm

There is a risk of greatly distorting the scientific relationship between pharmaceutical companies and operators of the National Health Service, leaving room for the mere commercial relationship

Sergio Cardinali, head of the Pharmaceutical Chemical Department of Filctem-CGIL, sent to Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Alessandra Todde, the e-mail we report in full

Deputy Minister Alessandra Todde good morning.

I sincerely hope that you have two minutes to devote to this email, which wants to launch a cry of alarm on the pharmaceutical sector which has always represented an excellence for our country, where in the last ten years there have also been strong productive investments, a little less alas in search. This has meant that the sector has acted anti-cyclically with respect to the crises we have gone through in recent years, and above all it has made a strong contribution to the Pandemic, allowing companies to collect large proceeds.

Now, for some months now, there have been strongly negative signals: the Israeli multinational group Teva closes two out of 5 factories, laying off 500 workers; there Dompè after cashing in public investments for the earthquake in L'Aquila, promising growth in volumes, he does not renew (he dismisses it is the same thing) administered with ten-year contracts – it should be emphasized that L'Aquila has invested heavily in the importance of this sector for the economic and social reconstruction after the earthquake by attracting important companies such as Menarini and Sanofi -; I could cite the case Pfizer that by continuing with the current disengagement at the Catania site, it risks leading it into complicated shackles; Takeda and Mylan, they fire fleets of pharmaceutical sales reps, following the example of many other companies which would lead to a very long list; the latter fact which risks greatly distorting the scientific relationship between pharmaceutical companies and operators of the Service National Health Service, leaving room for the mere commercial relationship, which has always been considered dangerous, derives to the detriment of the quality of the health service offered to citizens.

As national secretariats we have raised many alarm calls but unfortunately up to now they have gone unheard. Yesterday in Parliament, in the Chamber, there was a question from thehon. Rosa Menga, always very attentive to the problems of the sector, precisely on the facts of Takeda and Mylan, together with the Hon. Flora Friar.

Appealing to your strong sense of responsibility demonstrated in other disputes, I ask you to try to draw attention to the issue, guaranteeing from now on the maximum collaboration on the part of the Union.

Sure of a courteous reply, I take this opportunity to extend my most cordial greetings.
