Cursi, survey on the sector

"I am about to launch a fact-finding survey, at the end of the month or at the latest in September, aimed at understanding how best to support pharmaceutical companies". Cesare Cursi announced it [in the photo on the right], president of the Senate Industry Commission, yesterday in Rome on the sidelines of a conference on smoking.

"There was a technical table set up in the Ministry of Economic Development - explained Cursi - to map the presence of pharmaceuticals in our country, and let's say that Italy has a high percentage of drug companies. As such they must be defended and supported , if we want them to make further investments here.

It happened in Tuscany, where a large multinational company opened a research center with 250 million euros, recently refinanced due to its success. This was the result of a program agreement between the state and companies introduced when I was Undersecretary of Health in 2003.

According to the agreement, companies that invest in Italy receive a research prize. The fact-finding survey serves to fully understand which are the best mechanisms to support the pharmaceutical industries on one condition: that there is also careful consideration of the intelligent use of the drug".

TOMASSINI AND PAY-BACK

"The pay-back envisaged in the maneuver is above all a rethinking of how to administer those medicines and if we stay within the budget there will be no intervention. I think we need to rethink the drug in three ranges: a strictly hospital distribution range, a direct through the pharmacy of a part of the hospital medicines, and finally a territorial band.

If we do this well, there will be no need to resort to pay-back", said the president of the commission
