Facilitate opioid availability.

The Ministry of Health has sent a note to the Federation of Pharmacists' Orders (Fofi) recalling the importance of opioid analgesic drugs for pain therapy and inviting pharmacies "to meet, as much as possible, the needs of patients and to keep pharmacy an adequate quantity of these medicines". This was reported in a statement by Mundipharma Italia (a company that markets opiate medicines), which underlines "the important initiative of the Minister of Health, Hon. Livia Turco, who once again followed up on the declarations concrete facts regarding a problem like that of chronic pain, which affects millions of Italians every day".
According to the pharmaceutical company, the document bears witness to an important position taken in support of suffering patients, suffering from oncological pathologies, of terminally ill patients but also of the many patients with chronic benign pain who live with unnecessary suffering every day.
In recent months, the Patients' Rights Tribunal - adds Mundipharma - had also denounced the dramatic situation of patients suffering from chronic pain, one patient out of five has to wait more than a week before receiving the opioid drugs prescribed for pain relief ( while in 2004 the wait did not exceed 7 days) and 8% of citizens complained of difficulty in accessing opioid drugs, in 53% of cases because the drug is not available in pharmacies.
