Farmindustria: difficult single-dose, production is worldwide

Pharmaceutical productions are worldwide and one cannot think that a factory that produces for the whole world would start making a different package for Italy. So the president of Farmindustria, Massimo Scaccabarozzi, intervenes in the debate that has opened on the rule contained in the so-called Liberalization decree, which plans to optimize the dosages of the packs, even with single-dose drugs. "There are very few packs that do not have the optimal dosage, such as painkillers or anti-febrile drugs" adds Scaccabarozzi. «As a citizen, I prefer to have a bigger box at home to avoid having to go to the pharmacy to buy a single tablet». Farmindustria also intervened on health expenditure, during the presentation of the VIII Ceis Report, and issued a warning to the Government: "I'm worried, because I believe that the Government must begin to make global considerations for what drug companies represent in Italy, otherwise it will be decided that we want less research, less production and less employment". However, for Scaccabarozzi there is no problem with spending: «The savings that were asked of us in July have already been made. Given the Aifa data on 2011 expenditure, it can be seen that compared to an estimated hospital expenditure higher than 4%, in reality we are at 3.6%. If we then look at territorial expenditure, we all know that the private expenditure of the citizen is erroneously accounted for when he decides to take a drug at a price higher than that of the transparency lists. It is about 800 million euros».

The industries, single-serving packs? Penalizing

Creating single-dose drug packages "would be penalizing for the industry, because by now the productions are worldwide and cannot be modified only for Italy". This was stated by the president of Farmindustria, Massimo Scaccabarozzi, commenting on the provision contained in the liberalization decree on which the Api-Fli parliamentarians asked for the start of a discussion within the Italian drug agency. "There are now few - Scaccabarozzi reiterated - medicines that do not have optimal packaging. And if there are pills left over, it is possible that they will come in handy in an emergency, such as at night. As for unpacking, it would jeopardize the effective traceability system active in Italy: it would open up to counterfeiting, in the country where it is currently almost absent", he concludes.
