Fp Cgil: Tremonti boasts of the NHS, but continues to cut

We take as a repentance the declaration of the Minister of Economy and Finance, Giulio Tremonti, who, referring to journalists about a graph given to him by the European Commission during a seminar, boasted of our health system, thanking doctors and nurses for valuable work done. The comment comes from the Fp CGIL, which in a note recalls the situation of the health system in Italy. “We are pleasantly surprised by the Minister's statement. Tremonti still talks about the national health system from which he removed 1.5 billion euros of funding in 2011 alone and from which, according to journalistic rumors, he could subtract another 6 with the next maneuver ». Hence the complaint: «The doctors and nurses that the Minister thanks, those who guarantee one of the most efficient health services in the world, are the same ones whose contracts have not been renewed and who operate in increasingly disadvantaged conditions, first of all place due to the blockage of turnover and precariousness». As for the comparison with the United States, this is the conclusion of the note, we agree with Tremonti: public is better.

Court of Auditors: spotlight on hospital pharmaceuticals

Despite the fact that overall health expenditure is continuously increasing, the road taken with the "Health Pact" is the right one, so much so that the pace of growth has slowed down in the last two years. Still worrying, however, is hospital pharmaceuticals which, unlike the territorial ones, continue to exceed the ceilings. Luigi Giampaolino, president of the Court of Auditors, made the point on the sidelines of the conference "The protection of health and the role of the Court of Auditors: public expenditure in health matters" which was held yesterday at the Campus Bio-Medico University From Rome. Health expenditure in our country, explains Giampaolino, is the most important item of current spending by the Regions (75% on average) and is constantly growing: 113.5 billion euros in 2010 (equal to 7.3% of GDP), with forecast of just under 115 billion for 2011 (7.2% of GDP). Even if the pace of growth has slowed down: if, in fact, in 2008 spending increased by 6.6% compared to the previous year, in 2009 the increase was 1.8% and in 2010 by 2.7%. During the conference, concerns were expressed about the trend in hospital pharmaceutical expenditure, "a still unresolved problem": with its 5.4 billion euros, in fact, it stands at 5.1% of the national health fund, more than double of the expected limit of 2.4%. And on the measures introduced with the decrees implementing fiscal federalism, including that on standard costs in healthcare, Giampaolino specified that "even if an equivalent management and control system already exists in all Regions, its implementation still has to improve, both on the part of the public administrations and of the regional sections of the Court of Auditors".
