What appears around the corner
The progress of science has an absolute priority: that of making individuals happier. Medicine has tried to respond to this imperative by improving the lives of its patients. This is how research has allowed the functions performed by one's own organ to be replaced today by those of a donor. On the occasion of the release of the book by Prof. Franco Filipponi, Director of the Center for Hepatic Transplantation of the Cisanello Hospital in Pisa, The transplant and its experiences, Book al Duke Costume and Society returns to talk about transplants, how such a delicate aspect not only in clinical but also bioethical and psychological terms can finally be faced with joy. The formula of the literary salon of the hotel in Pario is the usual one: to combine the rigor and method of scientific culture with the testimonies of writers and celebrities. The concept is summarized in the formula Transplants without crying, to outline how, finally, the patient can be able to adapt not only biologically to an organ initially foreign to his body, but also from an internal point of view. The topics covered will be imbued with three references for discussion. The first is inherent in the patient as a person, in his entirety and in the inevitable psychological and not just physiological repercussions that a transplant can cause. The second is an examination of rules and regulations, as well as bioethics scenarios that affect the transplant donation business. Finally, the institutional panorama, which must always prove to be efficient and effective, in its responses to user requests. In addition to the author, the writers Luciano De Crescenzo and Ugo Riccarelli, Strega Prize with the book A perfect pain, as well as the president of AIDO Vincenzo Passarelli will be present. The evening which will be held on Thursday, 25 May 2006 at 7 pm will be conducted by Livia Azzariti.
