Janssen-Cilag, now it's just 'Janssen'

Janssen-Cilag, a Johnson&Johnson group company, changes brand. From now on, the US company, present in Italy with an office in Cologno Monzese and a production site in Latina, and all the pharmaceutical companies of the group worldwide, will in fact be called 'Janssen'. The creation of the new logo will thus unite, under a single coherent image, the pharmaceutical companies of the Johnson & Johnson group, facilitating the development of even closer relationships between them and opportunities for collaboration through the sharing of common research paths with the aim of developing innovative ideas and integrated solutions for patient care

Janssen-Cilag is a Johnson & Johnson company. For over a century, since its foundation in 1886 in the US state of New Jersey, Johnson & Johnson has linked its name to wellness and health care.

After an initial presence concentrated on the American market, in 1919 the Group expanded internationally with the opening of Johnson & Johnson Canada. Over the next 50 years, marked by constant growth in business, offices were opened in Latin America, Africa, Australia and Europe. 1944 is the year of listing on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and of the definitive transformation from a family business to a large international group.

J&J, the acronym by which the Group is universally known in economic and financial circles, is characterized by being an organization that relies on the principle of decentralization of responsibilities and activities. Each local reality is managed independently and the top management is directly responsible for its work before a single central body, the Group Operating Committee, which coordinates and controls international operations.

Today J&J is one of the major global groups present in the area of personal health and well-being. It is made up of 250 companies operating in 57 countries, markets products in more than 175 countries, employs over 121,000 people.

The Johnson & Johnson Group is active in three areas:

  • PHARMACEUTICAL: it is the most important sector of the Group, which controls companies engaged in the research, development and marketing of ethical drugs of chemical synthesis and biotechnology origin.
  • MEDICAL DEVICES & DIAGNOSTICS: the activities of companies operating in the medical-surgical aids sector converge in this area: sterilization products, materials for sutures, stents for cardiac surgery and components for orthopedic surgery. The production of Acuvue contact lenses falls into this area.
  • CONSUMER: the sector, with health products, cosmetics, children's specialties, hygiene and first aid products, includes world-renowned brands, such as RoC, Johnson's, Neutrogena, Aveeno, Carefree, Penaten and Band-Aid.

Janssen was founded in Belgium by Baron Paul Jan Adrian Janssen. While still a medical student, Paul Janssen helped develop Perdolan. After the Second World War, the brand of family products (of his father Costante) was transformed into Eupharma, And later the company became Janssen Pharmaceutica
