The top ten of the 10 Scrooges of Italy

Stefano Pessina

The Bank of Italy has analyzed the evolution of wealth and inequality in our country. Compared to the past, young people are increasingly poor and wealth is linked to assets accumulated over the years. Among the richest in Italy, Berlusconi is "only" sixth.

Italy is a state in which there are 10 very very rich individuals, whose assets amount to that possessed by the 3 million poorest compatriots. This is what emerges from a study entitled Wealth and inequality in Italy, published in the Occasional papers of Bank of Italy. What immediately catches the eye is the fact that our country is still quite rich, but wealth is represented by assets accumulated over time and not by income. This means that older families are richer than younger ones, compared to what was the case in the past. Precisely because the new recruits are unable to accumulate. In any case, in the international scenario, according to Bank of Italy, there is no particularly high inequality of wealth in Italy (compared to what is observed for income).

But who are the 10 Italian Scrooges?
1) Michele Ferrero – Mr. Nutella is at the top of this special top ten (23rd place in the world rankings), thanks to assets of 14.2 billion euros.
2) Leonardo Del Vecchio – owner of the eyewear giant Luxottica, has a fortune of 8.6 billion euros.
3) Giorgio Armani – Last step of the podium for the well-known designer and his capital of 5.4 billion.
