For prescribing appropriateness, Sardinia focuses on pharmacists

Sardinia relies on NHS pharmacists to provide independent information to doctors and improve their prescribing appropriateness. With a resolution of the Giunta dated 30 December, the Region authorized the launch of an experimental program based on information meetings between hospital pharmacists and family doctors. Initially, the project will involve the first three Local Health Authorities of the island in terms of assisted population, namely Sassari, Nuoro and Cagliari. In each, a suitably trained pharmacist will provide GPs with updates on clinical studies and scientific literature, during appointments set individually or for small groups based on an annual company programme. The goal, as stated in the resolution, is to "improve prescribing practice by informing MG doctors about the most recent knowledge in the field of therapy". The presence of the pharmacist, continues the document, "offers doctors independent and reliable information" and guarantees "continuous feedback on prescription data".
