Swiss. Medicines also for sale in bulk

The proposal deserves to be tested, according to the National

Friday 12/15/17 10:17 – CSR

The National Council believes the time has come to start a test phase for the sale of medicines in bulk, which has already been successfully tested in France. On the last day of the session, Friday, MEPs welcomed tacitly a motion by Manuel Tornare (PS/GE). States have yet to express themselves.

The text underlines the problem of the waste of medicines. According to the Federal Office for the Environment, the 30% of those purchased in Switzerland is not consumed. Tornare argues that "the advantages of selling in bulk are obvious", since in addition to waste, the risk of self-medication with the tablets left in the package would be reduced. Not to mention the considerable savings also for health insurance.

The idea was not contested by any parliamentarian and the government also said it was in favour, sharing the principle according to which the sale of medicines should correspond as closely as possible to actual consumption. Antibiotics in particular, if used later without a prescription, risk increasing resistance.
