Venezuela. The Union indicates that 350 ISF have been fired

(Caracas, May 22). On Thursday, the President of the National Union of Medical Visitors (SINAViME) reported that about 350 people in this sector have been made redundant by pharmaceutical companies, both national and multinational. operating in the country.

According to Alfredo Salomón, several companies have adopted in the last 4 months a policy of removing medical visitor personnel, considering that the measure aims to eliminate personnel with greater economic weight for these companies, replacing them with other personnel with less economic benefits, while stating that the laboratories deny that this is the reason and allude to the reduction of personnel for the economic crisis.

Salomòn, who is also a member of the Federation of Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals (FETRAMECO) says that the pressure exerted by companies to get people to withdraw is of all kinds, including an incentive paid in dollars, a situation which is in contrast with the Venezuelan legislation establishing the obligation to liquidate them in national currency.

He also indicated that the decrease by domestic pharmaceutical companies in the import of medicines and raw materials caused by the current economic situation has led to a decrease in the income of workers in this sector which brings together 7,000 people across the country. , and believes that the government must open spaces for workers' organizations to express their proposals for the economic realities of the sector.

Finally, he rejects the fact that the revolutionary government does not accredit the UNETE Workers' Central to participate in the annual meeting of the OIT, and believes that the measure is unjust when considered from every point of view, including a political one.
