Drugs: m5s question on failure to implement rules on 'single-dose'

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Rome, June 26 - What are the reasons why "the Italian Medicines Agency has not yet taken steps to adopt", pursuant to Law Decree 1/2012, "the resolution on the methods of packaging medicines, even single-dose ones, in consideration of the substantial savings generated which would favor citizens, the State and the environment". The 5 Star Movement asks for it in a question to the Minister of Health, Beatrice Lorenzin, with a document that sees Senator Giovanni Endrizzi as the first signatory. "In addition to an economic advantage for citizens and the State - explains Endrizzi - the correct application of the decree and the resolution would make it possible to reduce the quantities of medicines to be disposed of with an environmental benefit. According to recent statistics on the consumption of medicines in Italy - explains the representative of the 5 Star Movement in a note - it appears that, every year, families waste a large quantity of medicines, throwing away medicines worth around 80 euros, out of the 400 spent annually, as they are not used and expired and that this mainly occurs in due to the pre-packaged doses, distributed in pharmacies, which are in excess of the specific medical prescriptions".
