Drugs: Pit-Salute, for overpriced and often untraceable citizens

15 November 2012 – 10:00

(ASCA) - Rome, Nov. 15 - Citizens' reports on drugs are increasing, going from 3.1% in 2010 to 4.9% in 2011. This is highlighted by the Pit-Salute Report of CIttadinanzattiva [look down], presented today, specifying that for drugs in category C, whose figure rises from 12.3% in 2010 to 18% in 2011, these are in fact reports from citizens who are unable to cope with the high costs of drugs.

In the same way, there is an increase in reports of drugs in category A, which have gained 5.2 percentage points compared to last year (12.7% in 2010, 17.9% in 2011). In this case, people reported the absurd choice, in their opinion, of making them pay the price difference, even considerable, between the designer and the generic.

Next we find the problems with untraceable drugs which have also increased according to the findings of the Report (13.5% in 2010 to 15.5% in 2011). There are still many reports for drugs in class H, ie in that area that describes access to hospital drugs (11.6% in 2010, 10.5% in 2011). Access to medicines has always been an area that has been affected by heavy measures by the government with a continuous review of the expenditure ceilings for territorial and hospital pharmaceuticals. In fifth place in terms of number of reports we find those for which citizens denounce the increase in the incidence of expenditure for the purchase of medicines (9.6% in 2010, 8.3% in 2011). For citizens, the expense for the purchase of medicines is becoming truly unsustainable, bordering on inaccessible.
