Medicines, relaunch of Aifa

Better access to medicines, accelerated registration procedures and independent information à go-go are key elements of AIFA's annual activity program for 2012 in the opinion of the State-Regions Conference, the contents of which are anticipated on the number of Il Sole-24 Ore Healthcare out this week. Among the institutional commitments, the appropriateness of spending with actions for the development of the market for generics and biosimilars always remains in the foreground; the adoption of innovative methods on prices and reimbursements; the completion of the revision of the National Pharmaceutical Handbook.
In terms of access to treatment, the Aifa mission reserves a particular focus on orphan drugs, with the promise of a four-handed work with the Regions to improve and facilitate access to the dedicated fund and the reimbursement of expenses incurred by local governments.
The universe of actions that revolve around the appropriateness of expenditure is crucial for the Agency: in pole position is the development of the generics market, with targeted actions also for biosimilars; the adoption of innovative methods for determining drug prices and defining reimbursement; the systematization of pharmaceutical expenditure data in a single data warehouse; the completion of the revision of the National Pharmaceutical Handbook; the identification of tools to encourage investments in research and development.
In support of the latter objective also the mission which aims to qualify Aifa's participation in the EU and in EMA, to promote Italy as a reference country in authorization procedures, to promote cooperation with national and international partners and stakeholders also with the aim of strengthening the entire production chain of the sector.
Finally, Agenda Doc for the strengthening of information and independent communication and supervision of private medical-scientific information on drugs.
The calendar of commitments provides for new editorial products aimed at the goal of prescriptive appropriateness; the replication of the campaign on the correct use of antibiotics; institutional communication initiatives ranging from apps dedicated to web TV, passing through a special stamp, the annual Aifa-Day.
And for employees and collaborators also an "Aifacebook" with curriculum vitae, photos and anything else that can be used to create knowledge and interaction
