ITALIANS PROMOTE PUBLIC HEALTH

Thirty years after its establishment, the National Health Service gains the trust of the 54% of the Italians and is preferred to private healthcare, which only 3 out of ten Italians like. However, the approval of Italian healthcare is not uniform across the territory: while in the North there is a promotion with flying colors in the Centre-South, organizational and structural dysfunctions and deficiencies cause approval and trust to fall below the 50% threshold. These are the main results of the survey promoted by the Anaao Assomed medical union and carried out by the Swg of Trieste on a representative sample of the Italian population over 25 years of age. A disparity in judgments, that between the north and the rest of Italy, which however seems to disappear when addressing people who have had recent direct experience with health services. The quality of care and hospital services is in fact judged satisfactory by 72% of the interviewees. An average that includes the satisfaction of the North (82%) but also that of the Center (68%) and the South (57%). Almost similar judgments were expressed on medical and health personnel who are promoted by the 70% of Italians with percentages that pass from 80% in the North, to 63% in the Center up to 60% in the South. Hospitals in the South are instead penalized for management, with judgments that fall below the 50% threshold when it comes to comfort, food, organization, information services and hygiene.
