THE DRUG LYRICA IS DISPENSED FREE OF CHARGE

The drug Lyrica is dispensed free of charge. This is the request addressed to the Ministry of Health by the association Tribunal rights of the patient - Active Citizenship of Feltre in order to make the use of this analgesic drug accessible to all citizens. «The writing association – reads the letter – turns to the Ministry of Health to plead the case for the inclusion of the drug Lyrica in the range of medicines that the national health service dispenses free of charge to all patients for whom it is prescribed. This is a drug with analgesic action particularly indicated in certain pathologies and which in many patients does not present, unlike other drugs having the same function, significant side effects. The absence or containment of important contraindications makes the drug particularly valuable for subjects suffering from painful pathologies, especially chronic ones, helping to improve their quality of life. The main obstacle to the use of the drug is its high cost which precludes the less well-off from obtaining supplies. This constitutes unacceptable discrimination.'The General Directorate of Medicines and Medical Devices of the Ministry of Health replied that the report will be «object of evaluation and deepening» and that the «the same note will be sent for the fulfillment of competence to the competent Italian Medicines Agency». The Patients' Rights Tribunal association will be present with its own stand at the 25th Santa Giustina Market Exhibition scheduled from 5 to 7 October next. The Gazzettino of 06/10/2007 ed.
