ZERO RISK GOAL: JANSSEN-CILAG LAUNCHES SAFE DRIVING COURSES WITH QUIZ AND AWARDS

In the "Safe Fleet" project, implemented in Italy by Janssen-Cilag, a pharmaceutical company of the Johnson&Johnson group, attention to the quality and maintenance of the cars comes first An important result has already been achieved: accidents have been halved

Milan Car safety for its employees. It is one of the foundations of the Johnson & Johnson group, which due to its corporate philosophy considers itself responsible for the health and well-being of its employees. In the automotive sector, for several years the group has been engaged in a program to guarantee the safety of its fleet, called "Safe Fleet". There are 35,572 cars that are part of it worldwide. In Italy, there are 1,277 vehicles and each year they travel a total of 52 million kilometers. In our country the company has various company branches and among them is Janssen-Cilag which produces drugs and which was one of the promoters of the program, as explained by its Sales Manager Internal Medicine Paolo Beloni, who followed and developed the project. «The basic idea is that the working environment must be clean and safe. And for most of our employees, the working environment is the car». The objective of the "Safe Fleet" project, which has people who deal with it and study solutions together in all companies controlled by Johnson & Johnson, is to promote the culture of car safety, aiming at the prevention and reduction of accidents that can involve employees. Every year the Apmm (Accidents Per Million of Miles) is established worldwide, a maximum number of accidents per million miles. Each group company undertakes to respect the fixed limit and to educate its employees on the correct use of vehicles. «We started from a quota of 10 – explains Beloni – and we practically halved it. The objective for the current year is to reduce it further and for the future to bring it as close as possible to zero». The first degree of attention obviously concerns the safety levels of company vehicles, with the presence of all the necessary devices. But the most onerous and innovative task is that linked to promoting a culture of safety in one's employees who use the car, often also involving family members. The base is linked to a popular activity, to "pills" and information on the subject that are sent to everyone via email. Then there are real safe driving courses with original initiatives such as real quizzes with symbolic prizes to further stimulate the employee on the subject. The response was positive given that the data from Janssen-Cilag are also excellent for our country. For those who really can't avoid being reckless and not avoiding accidents or fines for their own responsibility (the so-called high risk driver) there are also sanctions that are canceled if the driving behavior becomes impeccable the following year. Johnson & Johnson's ideas have also been taken up by other large companies such as British Tobacco, Coca Cola and Shell. Because road safety is essential for health and also important economically, since similar programs are a strong point in contracts with insurance companies and leasing companies.
