Pfizer to close 8 plants and cut 6,000 jobs within 5 years

By 2015 Pfizer will cut 6,000 jobs, equal to 18% of the total workforce, following the closure of 8 manufacturing plants in Ireland, Puerto Rico and the USA, and the reduction of operations at 6 other sites. The operation will serve to contain costs and optimize the corporate organization following the acquisition of Wyeth. The maneuver is part of a broader plan that aims to cut 19,000 jobs by the end of 2012 and reduce costs by 4 to 5 billion dollars in the same period.
