September 12, 2012 – 8.15pm

(ASCA) - Rome, September 12 - "Tackling the problems of the pharmaceutical sector and identifying the tools to relaunch the growth of a sector that the Government considers strategic for the development of the national economy". These are the objectives of the table on pharmaceuticals convened today by the Minister of Economic Development Corrado Passera, which was attended by the entire institutional, entrepreneurial and trade union chain of the sector.

Together with Minister Passera and Undersecretary for Development Claudio De Vincenti, the Undersecretary for Economy Gianfranco Polillo, the administrative heads of the Ministries of Health and Education, as well as representatives of the State-Regions Conference, the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, the Italian Medicines Agency (Aifa) and the Regional Services Agency (Agenas) took part in the works. Also present at the meeting were Federchimica, Farmindustria, Federfarma, Federservizi, Assogenerici, Adf, Assofarm, Filcem, Cgil, Femca Cisl, Uilcem, Ugl Chimici.

The inauguration of the table, explains Mise, "was an opportunity to discuss the main problems and development opportunities concerning the sector. At the end of the meeting, it was decided to organize the work through vertical tables divided by theme, which will already be convened in the next few days under the coordination of the Ministry of Economic Development, in concert with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the Economy".

“It is really significant – said Minister Passera – to see all the players in an important sector for our country gathered around the same table. Pharmaceuticals – continued the minister – are in fact a driver of development which strongly affects the real economy and employs tens of thousands of people. It also has good competitive capacity, based mainly on technological innovation and research: it is therefore in this direction that the government intends to concentrate its efforts to help overcome the critical issues and support the productive relaunch of the sector".
